The other night I was having a conversation with my son Andrew over movies. We we're discussing what was "appropriate" viewing. I mentioned how I really enjoyed the comedy between Robert Di Nero and Charles Grodin in the movie Midnight Run but that I didn't own a copy of the DVD because I remember them using the "f-word" about a jillion times and it really ruined it for me. Andrew replied that he felt like he was basically immune to the language. Of course he is! It's something that he hears dozens of times day in and day out at school. I've been with people after a movie and commented on the language only to have them reply "what language?" We're a society drenched in profanity and what used to be offensive is less and less so...
The death of Terri Schiavo was, to me, an incredible act of inhumanity. I grieve for the crime committed against her and my heart goes out to the family that loves her so deeply.
I also grieve for our country. Not only because those in authority stood by impotently while unwise judges condemned this woman to starve to death, but because I begin to see the "f-words" raining. Maybe only a drop or two now; but soon a drizzle, then the storm. How long will it take before we are immune to the cries of the defenseless? How long before a judge deems the "quality" of an Alzheimer patients life to be low enough that they should be "allowed" to die? How long before the mentally handicapped are questionable? Extreme? Of course it is! But many things acceptable began as the unthinkable.
We no longer hear the cries of the unborn. We're immune.
Once, that was unthinkable. Now? Acceptable.
When will we quit hearing the cries of the Terri Schiavos?
Guess I'll go to blockbuster and rent that movie.
Surely, it wasn't as bad as I thought...
You forgot to mention "pre-emptive war" in your "culture of death" rant, Sweaver.
Are you only now realizing that the Bushistas took you for a ride? Ha ha.
Patsies.

Fully agree with you David. Too many (and many of whom should know better) put their faith in the almighty government and actively seek it for answers and resolution. While I don’t, and it sounds like you don’t either, we still have to “live and die” (increasingly more haunting now) by the mop mentality this country is politically descending to.

Perhaps it is time to stop looking to the politicians to bring about righteousness. They are bought and sold by the highest bidder, and while they might put a great "churchgoing" face on it, if it came to an issue of morals or having someone holdback millions of dollars in campaign contributions, who do you think they would side with? Call me a cynic, but I think green pictures of Benjamin Franklin and George Washington have more say in the destiny of our country than Operation Rescue or NARAL. The politicians will do what benefits THEM the most; to hell with right and wrong.

For a society with some many bowing down to an evolutionary theory to confirm that life is without purpose, it’s not surprising that they miss the value of Terri’s loving family and the love they claim they felt from her. All her family wanted to do was continue loving her and to take care of her. Where were the feminists? Where were the loud Left politicians? Spinelessly silent I’m afraid.
Evolutionists seem blind to the only real evolution occurring—how we have evolved into a society of death. All their rallying issues seem to continue to center around death (abortion, partial birth abortion, euthanasia, right-to-die, embryonic stem cell research, gay marriage (what’s the latest average life span of gays nowadays?), and the list goes on). When this was predicted 30 years ago following the landmark Roe v Wade, the predictors are/were classified as extreme right fundamentalists (extremists, fanatics – take your pick) or the religious right (which sounds might good nowadays when compared to the implied non-religious Left).
The country is divided roughly 50/50. One half thinks the country has/is turning into a theocracy. Oy, mishegas! It doesn’t sound likely to improve anytime soon as I discern it.
Here's to your health, it's more than internal now!
